There's an area of Los Angeles, more specifically the West Hollywood area, that's known as the "Bird Street' area. It's a highly exclusive area where the rich and famous own a lot of property. Most of the streets are named after birds, which is where it gets its designation from. For instance, there's a property up for sale right now on Nightingale Drive that's known, logically enough, as the Nightingale House, which was designed by European designer Marc Canadell. It's over 9,000 square feet of class and style, which includes 5 bedrooms, 8 bathrooms, and a pool, and overlooks the city of Los Angeles as it's built into the hills of Los Angeles County. As I said, if the price is right for you because this house is being sold for around $18 million dollars.
Luckily, not all homes are quite that pricey. Though you won't find anything that anyone not from the Los Angeles area would consider as cheap, you will find some bargain homes, and some of them belonged to, or are still owned by, celebrities.
Within the last couple of years, one house was purchased by Aimee Osbourne, one of Ozzy's daughters, for just under $2 million dollars, and she purchased it from Jessica Capshaw, the daughter and step-daughter of Kate Capshaw and Steven Spielberg.
This is on a street called Doherty, which isn't a bird, but is home to many wonderful houses for purchase or leasing at would are considered reasonable rates for this area. One home was listed for sale at around $4.2 million dollars, but for lease at $14,000 a month. It has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, along with a half bathroom, and each bathroom has its own Jacuzzi and shower in it.
So, even though it's an exclusive area, you can find a wide range of homes along with a wide range of prices. Christina Aguilera is one celebrity trying to sell her home in this area, right now priced around $7 million, as she's discounted it. It's a beautiful house, but with small children, too many open spaces and access to a nice drop off the side, it's no wonder she's trying to move. Britney Spears also had a house in this area that she had trouble moving because of its price tag. Another house, whose owner is unknown, has a house in the same area up for sale at around $12.75 million dollars.
Other sellers have been a bit more fiscally responsible. For instance, hair stylist John Antin has his home on the market for around $1.5 million dollars, which should make it easier to sell. And there's even a lot owned by photographer Wally Seawell on sale for $1.4 million dollars, which means you can design your house however you'd like, as it has an unobstructed view of the city of Los Angeles.
